It's your body's pure moisturizer and protectant for your ears. It protects in several ways, firstly man an oily substance, it repels river from getting in your ears. It also sticks dust etc. to it, after-wards human being naturally expelled. Having have ear problems, I have be repeatedly told not to use purchased buds and other potential ear cleaners, as ear wax is produced to help save them in correct condition. Plus poking things in can inadequately damage your significantly sensitive hearing organ.
It will disappear with ease too.
I think its to maintain your ears clean.seem redundant.dirty stuff to keep dirty stuff out.
