12 guage is quite substantial. The larger the number, the smaller the guage.
Get a 3rd opinion and engender sure that the place you use has an excellent reputation. They should be cleaning their instruments properly and should discuss adjectives the risks with you. Also, if you are underneath 18 they should be requesting parent consent. If they dont, they are shady and you want someplace else.
don't do any gauge. it's totally not worth it. it's a status symbol for the poor.
